Restart Programme

The Restart Programme is a bespoke one-to-one mentoring initiative designed to engage, reintegrate & transition learners back into education

Restart is for pupils who require intensive support in overcoming barriers to participation, learning, interaction and engagement.

Includes: Mentoring, exciting engagement activities, refreshments, transport door to door, social interaction activities, session reports, professional meetings, learning materials, and much much more

Curriculum & Sessions

Restart Programme delivers a tailored, bespoke and engaging approach for each pupil, combining personal learning, transition focused engagement with enrichment activities such as:

  • Math & English (Functional Skills & online GCSE's) with a tutor

  • Plus IXL.com for all KS levels for Math, English & Science with online learning supported by mentors

  • 2 x Vocational Courses (Pupils choose from 16,000 courses online at all levels) supported by mentors

  • Work Experience (WEX) 

  • Outdoor activities & PE

  • Return to Learn (prep for returning to learning/school)

  • Support with transition to new school/education setting

  • Life skills, cooking, arts, and crafts

  • Bushcraft, fishing, swimming, and more

  • Social interaction and small peer group activities

  • 3 x activity centres for play and learning with controlled social peer interaction

  • PHSE sessions and sexual health

  • Football & Fitness coaching, one-on-one or group sessions and access to gyms

  • Incorporating 3rd party partner organisations courses in Restart Programmes e.g. Motor Mechanics, Equine, IT/coding, Music, Woodwork, Gardening, Sports, Apprenticeships etc

Referrals to RESTART Programme is easy and quick. We don’t want any child to be out of education longer than necessary.

Restart Programme is in many Local Authority  Alternative Education & Schools Directories. Restart has been established since 2016 and we have worked for many Local Authorities, Schools, PRU’s, CLA teams. SEND teams, care homes and foster agencies.  Restart is commissioned and Quality Audited by the following LA's: Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedford Borough, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire, Cornwall and Central Bedfordshire Council and many local schools and academies

Transport:

Door-to-door transport is provided at no extra charge, including school to home and home to school transport.

Next Day Referrals

Restart can provide a ‘Next Day’ service for pupils once considerations for health & safety, risk assessments, safeguarding and individual needs have been agreed.

Safeguarding & Mentors

The safety of our staff and pupils is paramount in everything we do. We examine the risks surrounding each pupil as an individual and this is taken into account when matching our Restart programmes and tutors / mentors to them. All our mentors go through an induction process which includes training in risk assessment, safeguarding, First Aid.

All mentors are experienced of working with pupils with complex needs.

All mentors are DBS enhanced, fully trained in safeguarding and experienced with working with pupils with complex needs

Restart Programmes are focused on engagement transitioning back to existing provision or new education placements and schools 

Restart's quality bespoke support and mentoring enables engagement and progression at each pupils pace working towards agreed outcomes. Programmes and support is fun, exciting, challenging building positive trusting relationships with mentors

Delivering structure and routine to  support pupils in transitioning and providing  respite for carers and families

Providing a therapeutic approach in returning a young person to a learning environment, supporting them to develop academically, but also develop resilience and coping strategies to support barriers that often impact engagement

Restart Programme has 3 x Activity Centres where pupils can come together with their mentors to socialise and interact with peers in a controlled and safe environment. All centres have kitchens for cooking lessons and sports halls with outside space for play and bushcraft (fishing in St Ives). We partner with the Scouts and they provide activity sessions such as archery, climbing, watersports, pellet shooting, survival skills. All centres invite guest speakers and organisations to interact and engage in PHSE sessions. Centres have classrooms for Math, English and science learning with tutors with IT. Centres are in Stevenage, Apsley and St Ives and managed by our area managers
